- Expanding Resources for Professionals: Introduction of Specialist Hub

More and more districts and independent cities in Saxony are providing special services for urgently required skilled professionals. In Zittau, the tenth Welcome Center in the Free State has recently opened up. As per the Saxon Center for Securing Specialist Personnel and Good Work (ZEFAS), these facilities serve as crucial contact points for both newcomers and employers, aiding in professional integration. The district of Meißen has launched a Welcome App to make settling in easier with information and support offers.

"We don't merely provide assistance upon arrival, but we establish an environment where newcomers can stay long-term and feel at home," explained the Görlitz district administrator Stephan Meyer (CDU) at the opening of the Welcome Center in Zittau. This point of contact in the tri-border area with Poland and the Czech Republic acts as a "welcome guide", assisting in tasks such as finding accommodation or employment, securing a Kindergarten spot, organizing suitable leisure activities, facilitating integration and language courses, and handling administrative matters.

The district in eastern Saxony is significantly impacted by a shortage of skilled professionals. In 2022, job vacancies here remained unfilled for an average of 199 days, contrasted with 144 days nationwide - a trend that is on the rise.

Pilot project in the Görlitz Clinic

The European city of Görlitz-Zgorzelec has had a Welcome Team since this spring, helping companies in recruiting foreign skilled professionals. Several internationally-focused companies and institutions are situated in this German-Polish border town.

A pilot project for the training of international nursing staff was initiated this spring at the Municipal Hospital in Görlitz. According to its own claims, the East Saxon hospital already employs individuals from 27 nations. The Swiss plant builder Skan settled on the former power plant site in Hagenwerder, where more than 320 people from eleven nations are currently employed.

The specialized services provided for skilled professionals in Saxony are crucial for both newcomers and employers, aiding in their professional integration. To combat the significant shortage of skilled professionals in the district in eastern Saxony, the city of Görlitz has implemented a Welcome Team to help companies recruit foreign skilled professionals.
