In the region of Thuringia, a notable surge is observed in business shutdowns. The Statistical State Office in Erfurt disclosed that from January to July, a total of 6,717 business closures occurred, marking a 4.0% rise compared to the same period in the previous year. Interestingly, there was no notable change in business registrations during this period. A total of 6,902 businesses were registered, which is a mere 9 less than the registrations in 2023.

The majority of these registrations and cancellations involved small businesses and secondary operations. The number of closures for larger businesses increased by 8.3%, with 1,397 such closures reported. However, the number of new businesses established during this period decreased by 3.9%, with 1,197 new businesses founding operations.

Retail and car repair shops saw the most action, with numerous registrations and cancellations recorded. Additional significant market activity was observed in sectors such as building cleaning, gardening and landscaping, temporary employment agencies, and the travel industry.

The increase in business closures for larger businesses can be attributed to The Commission's strict enforcement of environmental regulations. Despite this, The Commission also played a crucial role in providing guidance and support to small businesses, helping them navigate the registration process.
