Expanded Walmart+ Benefit: Complimentary Whoppers and Reduced Prices at Burger King

The merchandiser is teaming up with the fast-food establishment to grant members of its $98-yearly subscription service, Walmart+, a 25% discount on Burger King orders daily and complimentary Whoppers every 3 months, both entities declared on Thursday.

This is the latest advantage for Walmart+, a four-year-old initiative primarily geared towards challenging Amazon Prime. It provides comparable privileges, such as free shipping and same-day grocery delivery. Walmart maintains its annual fee less than Prime's ($139) and has been incorporating advantages like this to match Amazon's in an effort to rival its supremacy.

For Burger King, the collaboration offers the organization another tool to entice quick-food patrons – a large number of whom have been resisting hiked prices.

"This exclusive benefit is designed to save members time and money, aligning with their active lifestyles where grocery shopping, meal planning, and cooking may not constantly be achievable," Walmart stated in a press release. The addition of the Burger King advantage "serves as a sensible, affordable solution to cater to dining preferences and hectic schedules."

Activating the deals necessitates Walmart+ members to connect accounts with a free Burger King Royal Perks profile, and the discount applies solely to orders made through the burger chain's app. The free Whopper benefit will commence in September, while the 25% discount commences straight away.

Amazon and Walmart don't specifically disclose membership numbers for either of their programs, but according to third-party research, Walmart lags substantially – 29 million members to Amazon's 184 million members.

Two years back, Amazon partnered with GrubHub to offer Prime members GrubHub's subscription program without charge. The agreement was recently renewed.

This collaboration between the merchandiser and the fast-food establishment is a strategic move to attract and retain Walmart+ members, as businesscompetition between Walmart+ and Amazon Prime is intensifying. With the discount and free Whoppers, Burger King aims to appease customers who have been resisting increased prices in the fast-food sector.
