- Expanded forest blaze in Luckenwald
A significant forest blaze has ignited close to Luckenwalde in the Teltow-Fläming region. A heap of timber in Frankenfelde district went up in flames and dispersed to an adjacent forest, based on the statements of the regional forest fire protection officer, Raimund Engel. Approximately 2-3 hectares of forest land have been affected, but there's no threat to the local populace. The affected forest region lies adjacent to the federal highway B101.
The forest fire danger was rated as high to very high in Brandenburg on Saturday. According to Engel, multiple forest fires occurred. A fire in Baruth/Mark, also situated in the Teltow-Fläming region, has already been contained, Engel mentioned. A fire also took place in Kablow district of Königs Wusterhausen within the Dahme-Spreewald district, but Engel speculated it to be relatively small.
Relief - followed by escalating forest fire risk
The German Meteorological Service anticipates alleviation from Sunday. At that point, the forest fire danger will only be high in select areas. However, it will escalate in numerous locations from Tuesday, although not as high as on Sunday.
Brandenburg, with its scarcity of rain, vast pine forests, and sandy soils, is the federal state with the highest forest fire risk. As per the Environmental Ministry, it is prohibited throughout the year to ignite a fire or smoke within less than 50 meters from the forest edge. The forest fire risk assessment factors in air temperature, relative air humidity, wind speed, precipitation rate, and atmospheric radiation.
The ongoing forest fires in Brandenburg pose a threat to additional forested areas from Tuesday, as predicted by the German Meteorological Service. Despite the high forest fire risk in the region, a recent fire in Kablow district was estimated to be relatively small.
