Hanover Region - Exhibition grounds used for refugees again

The exhibition grounds in Laatzen near Hanover have been used as refugee accommodation again since Monday. Up to 3,000 places are available for initial reception in Hall 27, as the Lower Saxony state reception authority announced on Monday in response to an inquiry. Over the next few days, around 400 people from the Braunschweig and Bramsche arrival centers will initially move in in order to ensure the capacity there for newly arriving asylum seekers. The occupancy rate will then be gradually increased.

From January, the state also intends to use Hall 13 with a further 3,000 places. Operation on the exhibition grounds is currently planned for 2024. Depending on how the number of visitors and the development of other locations develop, the use this year and the planning for 2025 will be adjusted, it was said. NDR first reported on the renewed use of the exhibition grounds.

The state reception authority currently has a total of around 11,400 places. Of these, around 6800 places are occupied, just under 60 percent.
