Ore Mountains district - Excavator crashes into railroad bridge during transport: extensive damage
An excavator being transported on a truck crashed into a railroad bridge in Pockau-Lengefeld (Erzgebirgskreis), causing considerable damage. The 47-year-old truck driver apparently did not pay attention to the clearance height on Wednesday afternoon, as the police reported on Thursday. The result was a collision in which the excavator was partially pushed off the loading area of the articulated truck.
According to the police, the truck was damaged as well as the bridge and the excavator. The police put the damage at several hundred thousand euros. The bridge was closed to rail traffic for an indefinite period. Public transportation was not affected by the closure, said a police spokeswoman. The road was closed for hours after the accident. The truck driver was reportedly uninjured.

The accident on the railroad bridge in Pockau-Lengefeld could have been prevented if the truck driver had paid attention to the clearance height, as mentioned by the police. Additionally, the high damage to the bridge and the truck means that alternatives for transportation might be necessary in Saxony until repairs can be made. Lastly, the lack of traffic disruptions in public transportation is a testament to the region's efficient transportation systems, even in the face of accidents like this one.
