Examinations are being carried out against a 36-year-old individual due to disruptions in the demolition of the cooling towers of the dismantled nuclear power plant in Grafenrheinfeld. Preliminary indications point towards blackmail, trespassing, and an infringement of general orders, as reported by authorities. On Friday, the individual had climbed up a power line and was apprehended. This incident resulted in a setback in the demolition process.
These investigations are being overseen by the police in Schweinfurt and will be handed over to the district attorney's office once completed. The individual was released following the demolition of the cooling towers. Authorities regarded the individual as a proponent of nuclear power.
The cooling towers of the nuclear power plant in Grafenrheinfeld were brought down on Friday night - five decades after construction commenced. The plant was decommissioned in 2015, and the dismantling process began in 2018, estimated to continue for approximately ten more years. Police estimated that there were around 10,000 spectators in the vicinity of the plant during the demolition. Approximately 200 police officers and 50 firefighters were present.
