Ex-Unioner Michel on the search for a coach: huge shoes to fill

Former Union professional Sven Michel expects challenging times for Urs Fischer's successor. "His footsteps are huge. You will always be the coach after Urs Fischer. That's a big burden," the Bundesliga striker from FC Augsburg told rbb ahead of the clash with his former club. Since Fischer's dismissal, interim coach Marco Grote and assistant Marie-Louise Eta have been in charge of training in Köpenick.

Michel played under Fischer for one and a half years at 1. FC Union Berlin. The 33-year-old attacking player learned of Fischer's departure from the media. "It's a real shame. Urs Fischer has made Union Berlin the club it is now. But that's soccer: after every high comes a low," said Michel.

The attacker is eagerly awaiting his return to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. "It means a lot to me, I really have to say that. I've experienced things for which I'll always be grateful to the club, Urs Fischer and the fans. That's why I'm really looking forward to it. It's a bit like coming home for me," said Michel.

Despite his new role at FC Augsburg, Michel still holds asoft spot for 1st FC Union Berlin, where he played under the influential coach Urs Fischer in the Bundesliga. His admiration extends to the club's soccer style, which was significantly shaped by Fischer's tenure.
