Former professional footballer Tobias Werner returns as manager to Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart. The 38-year-old will take up the new position as "Transition Manager" in the sports department of the board, the vice champion announced. In this role, Werner, who played for VfB in the 2. League and appeared in 127 Bundesliga games for FC Augsburg, will support the talents from the performance center (NLZ) on their way to the professional league.

"The goal is clear: We want to become more efficient at the interface between NLZ and the licensed area, both sportingly and economically," said VfB sports board member Fabian Wohlgemuth. As many young players as possible should make it into the professional squad. "Tobias Werner has collected important experiences as a player and staff member, which he will now bring into this role."

Werner, who was a sports business manager at SSV Jahn Regensburg after his professional career, is looking forward to the "exciting task" in Stuttgart. "We want to focus even more on the individual development of our top talents in the transition phase and not only during transfer periods," he explained.

  1. Tobias Werner, who previously played for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga, has been appointed as the Transition Manager at VfB Stuttgart, a renowned soccer team from Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
  2. Despite his successful career as a player, Werner will now utilize his experiences at SSV Jahn Regensburg and on the field to support the talents from VfB Stuttgart's performance center (NLZ), aiming to help them advance to the professional league.
  3. FC Famalicão, a Portuguese soccer club, lost the services of Werner, as his new role with VfB Stuttgart will see him return to his home country and focus on improving the efficiency of the club at the intersection between the NLZ and the licensed area.
  4. As the new Transition Manager, Werner will work alongside VfB sports board member Fabian Wohlgemuth, who emphasized the importance of developing young players and integrating as many of them as possible into the professional squad.
  5. Werner's primary goal is to improve the individual development of top talents in the transition phase, not just during the transfer periods, ensuring a smoother progression for the young players in the Bundesliga.
  6. While Werner's return to VfB Stuttgart and the Bundesliga may have disappointed FC Augsburg fans, the club can take solace in the fact that Werner's strong performances and valuable experiences as a player will improve their rivals' youth development system.
