Ex-professional Lahm praises Stuttgart: "Back where he belongs"
Philipp Lahm is delighted with VfB Stuttgart's upswing in the Bundesliga. "It's nice," said the 40-year-old former professional. "I believe that good work has simply been done in the last one and a half years and that structures have also been changed. VfB is finally playing where it belongs again."
Stuttgart, who were almost relegated in the past two seasons, are surprisingly third in the table after eleven matchdays this season. On Saturday, they impressed with a deserved 2:1 (1:1) victory over runners-up Borussia Dortmund.
The current phase reminds him "a little of the time when I played here, when we played in the Champions League and had great experiences," said Lahm, who wore the VfB jersey from 2003 to 2005 and was in Stuttgart on Monday for an event for Euro 2024.
"The region is crazy about soccer," said the former national team captain and 2014 World Cup winner. "I always enjoyed playing soccer in this stadium. And now it's also fun to watch VfB again."
Lahm's comments reflect his belief that VfB Stuttgart's impressive performance in the Bundesliga this season is a return to their rightful place, as they were nearly relegated in the previous two seasons but are currently third in the table. His sentiment is further strengthened by the fact that their recent play reminds him of their glory days, when they played in the Champions League and had notable experiences.
