Ex-NFL pro Vollmer: Game in Frankfurt a chance for Patriots

Super Bowl winner Sebastian Vollmer sees next weekend's appearance in Frankfurt as a great opportunity for his former team, the New England Patriots. "In the last survey, we had the biggest fan base of any NFL team in Germany. Most of them have only followed us on TV so far. Now we're in Germany. Of course we also want to offer the fans something, it should be a big thank you for their huge support," the 39-year-old told the Münchner Merkur/tz media group (Thursday).

The currently struggling Patriots, with whom Vollmer secured the championship in 2015 and 2017, will face the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt on Sunday (3:30 p.m./RTL and DAZN).

Vollmer said it should not be forgotten that Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots, also accepts losses for the game in Germany. "You play a home game in America in a much bigger stadium, the flights, all the logistics costs. But of course this is an incredibly great opportunity to further expand our brand here and show what the New England Patriots stand for," said Vollmer.

The game is sold out - just like the game between the current Super Bowl winners Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins last weekend (21:14). Vollmer liked the atmosphere in Hesse. "The days leading up to the game were fantastic, and the atmosphere in the stadium was great," he said. "It's currently shift change, the first hundred thousand fans have left, now the new ones are slowly coming back. It will be really full again by the weekend at the latest."

The New England Patriots, led by ex-NFL pro Sebastian Vollmer, view their upcoming American Football game against the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt as a chance to thank their vast fan base in Germany, who have primarily followed them on TV until now. Despite the logistical costs associated with playing in a foreign country, Robert Kraft, the Patriots' owner, recognizes this as an opportunity to boost their brand in Germany.
