Transfer - Ex-Leipzig player Demme joins Hertha
Hertha BSC has signed Diego Demme after a year of waiting. The 32-year-old German joins Hertha BSC transfer-free to the 2nd Bundesliga team. Demme signed a contract until 2026, as Hertha announced. The contract of the midfielder at the Italian club SSC Napoli had expired at the end of June.
"Diego will strengthen our central midfield with his quality and experience. We are happy that we could now make his transfer to Hertha BSC a reality," emphasized Sport Director Benjamin Weber.
Demme was close to a move to Berlin last summer, but it didn't come through. In Naples, the former Bundesliga pro, who made a national team appearance for Germany in the last two seasons, had only ten starts in league games. Besides RB Leipzig, Demme played in Germany for SC Paderborn and Arminia Bielefeld, and made 105 appearances in the Bundesliga.
At Hertha, the 32-year-old is expected to provide further reinforcement for the central midfield, alongside Kevin Sessa and the former Bayern professional Michael Cuisance. This was one of the major weaknesses in the previous season.
