Bundesliga 2 - Ex-Holstein coach praises Kiel: "Exceptional performance"
Werder Bremen coach Ole Werner has praised his former club Holstein Kiel for winning the fall championship in the 2nd Bundesliga. According to the coach, finishing top of the table in the winter is an "extraordinary achievement", as the 35-year-old said in Bremen on Monday.
Werner praised how the club, which he coached for almost two years from fall 2019, managed "a major upheaval" in the summer. Many professionals had left, many new ones had joined. That was no "easy task". "And it was obviously mastered brilliantly. That's why I'm pleased for everyone I know, for the club in general, that they're playing a very good role this year and probably have every opportunity to have a very, very successful season at the end."
As Kiel coach in 2021, Werner failed to make the leap into the first division in the promotion relegation play-off against 1. One year later, he managed direct promotion as coach of Bremen.
