- "Everyone was taken aback."
The players of SV Elversberg showed their emotions after their teammate Florian Le Joncour suffered a severe injury during a second division match. They posted a picture on X, posing with Le Joncour's jersey and captioned it "For you, Florian!" Le Joncour took a nasty fall on his arm during a header challenge, causing a gruesome injury that required immediate attention on the field and a trip to the hospital. It's been reported that he might have received a sedative injection due to the extreme pain. "It was a moment that shook us all," commented Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht, sending his and the club's well-wishes for a swift recovery.
Le Joncour was protected by security personnel while getting treated by medical staff. He was escorted off the field to the cheers of the spectators and was taken away in an ambulance. The game was paused for more than 20 minutes from the 64th minute, but Elversberg had already secured a victory with Luca Schnellbacher scoring the first goal (5th), Fisnik Asllani netting two (20th, 59th), and Filimon Gerezgiher scoring the decisive fourth goal (90th) to secure a 4-0 victory.
Darmstadt's struggles continue. For the Lilies, it's their third loss in four second division matches this season. Darmstadt's defense was riddled with holes, and they lagged behind in attack, except for Sergio Lopez's free kick (62nd). Including the previous season, it marks eight consecutive games without a win for Darmstadt, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season.
The SV Elversberg players expressed their support for Florian Le Joncour even after securing a 4-0 victory over Darmstadt, dedicating their victory celebration to him. Despite the injury, Le Joncour received a warm send-off from the spectators as he was escorted off the field.
