"Everyone has a clown in them": "Red Noses" association turns 20
There's a clown in everyone: On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the clown artists' association "Rote Nasen", its ambassador has a tip for adults. "Everyone has a clown and a philosopher inside them," the clown Dr. Rollo told the German Press Agency on Tuesday. "The philosopher asks: Where am I? Why am I here? What has happened?" The clown, on the other hand, lives in chaos. "The clown lives in a world that he doesn't understand, but he doesn't leave and instead creates meaning in the chaos," says Dr. Rollo, whose real name is Rolando Villazón and who works as a tenor. "The clown always wins because he finds answers and solutions where there are none."
The non-profit organization "Rote Nasen" brings clown artists into hospitals. According to their own information, they particularly amuse children and senior citizens living with dementia on the wards. The association was founded in 2003.
According to Felix Berger, Chief Physician of the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic at the German Heart Center of the Charité, the medical benefits of the clown visits have also been scientifically proven. After the meetings, children have an increased level of oxytocin in their blood - a happiness hormone that reduces stress. "After the clown visit, the children are full of energy and deal with their illness in a stronger way," says the doctor.
The colorful clowns from "Rote Nasen" association have significantly contributed to the health and well-being of children in hospitals. Their social affairs often include entertaining sick children, which not only brings joy but also enhances their emotional resilience, as proven by increased oxytocin levels after their visits.
