Even with a decrease in overall electricity production, renewable energy sources experienced a rise in output.
Traditional energy sources saw a 25.4% drop in electricity production, while renewable sources saw a rise of 11.6% compared to the same time last year. This shift resulted in renewable sources generating 58.4% of all electricity from January to March, up from 48.5% in the same period in the previous year.
Wind power was the top energy source in electricity production, accounting for 38.5% of the total. Next was coal, responsible for 23.0%. However, coal-generated electricity saw a major decline, decreasing by over 28%, adding to the overall decrease in production from traditional sources. With the nuclear power plants being shut down in April of the previous year, no electricity was imported from these sources.
Electricity imports saw a sizable increase by 38.5%, while exports slipped by 21.7%, as per statistical data.

Despite the decrease in overall power generation, Destatis's data reveals a notable increase in electricity production from renewables, reaching 58.4% from January to March. This marked a significant rise compared to the 48.5% generated during the same period the previous year. The decrease in power generation from traditional sources, including a major decline in coal-generated electricity, contributed to this shift. Even with coal's decrease by over 28%, renewables managed to offset the overall decline in production. This trend in power generation reflects the growing importance of renewable sources upon the electricity market in Wiesbaden.
