- Evading law enforcement: motorist dives into Moselle
In an attempt to dodge a traffic stop, a person jumped into the Mosel River at night and remained submerged for approximately 45 minutes. The individual, aged 41, had taken off in his vehicle when a patrol tried to pull him over in Cochem, as per the authorities. Fleeing on foot, he entered the river, hoping to swim to the opposite side where officers were stationed.
Initially, the man showed no signs of leaving the Mosel. It was the fire department who managed to rescue him after 45 minutes, as mentioned in the report. Law enforcement believes that the person was under the influence and decided to abandon the stop. Further inquiries are being conducted.
The fire department notified the nearby Police station about the situation in the Mosel River. Despite being under the influence, the person was subsequently handcuffed and taken into Police custody for further investigation.
