World War bomb - Evacuation completed after bomb found in Plauen
Following the discovery of a World War II bomb in Plauen, the evacuation has been completed. This was announced by the city on Thursday evening. Around 4300 residents within a radius of 500 meters of the site had to leave their homes. The town hall, the Christmas market and a hotel are also located in the area. Around 200 helpers from the police, rescue service, fire department and explosive ordnance disposal service were involved in the evacuation. The defusing of the bomb was to begin in the evening.
A suspicious object was discovered during construction work on Thursday morning and the explosive ord nance disposal service was alerted. According to the experts, it was a 75-kilogram aerial bomb with an impact fuse.
