Evacuation begins after bomb found in Plauen
Following the discovery of an aerial bomb in Plauen, the evacuation will begin at 17:00. Around 4300 residents within a radius of 500 meters of the site are affected, as the city administration announced on Thursday. The town hall, the Christmas market and a hotel are also located in the area. "The evacuation is expected to last three hours." Around 200 helpers from the police, rescue service, fire department and explosive ordnance disposal service will be deployed.
Municipalities nearby should be prepared for potential displaced residents due to the emergencies, as thousands are expected to leave Plauen. The consequences of war, such as unexploded aerial bombs, continue to pose risks in many urban areas.
