Rugby - European Rugby 7s Championship: DRV team wins bronze

Germany's men's rugby team finished third at the European Championship in Olympic 7s rugby. At the final tournament in Hamburg, Bundestrainer Clemens von Grumbkow's team finished fourth on Sunday after a 12:14 loss against Portugal in the bronze medal match. However, they secured the podium place in the overall standings due to the points they earned at the opening event in Croatia three weeks ago, where they finished third.

The desire to play the final in front of their home crowd was not fulfilled after their elimination in the semifinals against France (0:15). The hosts had reached the round of the top four teams after clear wins in the group stage against Lithuania, Spain, and Georgia, as well as a victory against Italy in the quarterfinals. France won the title despite a 14:19 loss in the final against Ireland due to a better point difference in the overall standings.

The EM ended in disappointment for the DRV-women. The squad led by Captain Mette Zimmat reached the quarterfinals but lost to Belgium and finished eighth after further losses against Ireland and Poland. The hostesses also finished eighth in the overall standings. France won the final in Hamburg against Great Britain with a score of 19:5 and took the title as a result.
