European Union - European polling locations are now operational in Schleswig-Holstein.

Today in Schleswig-Holstein, polling stations opened at 8:00 am for the European election. Approximately 2.318 million citizens in this northernmost federal state were encouraged to cast their votes as people under 16 years old can now participate in this election for the first time. Additionally, around 107,400 citizens from other EU countries, including about 3,000 Poles, are eligible to vote here.

In this election, a total of 34 parties are competing. This is four parties less than in the last European election in 2019. The voter turnout from the 2019 election was 59.7%. The European Parliament in Strasbourg and Brussels consists of 720 members, and Germany sends 96 parliamentarians. For Schleswig-Holstein, the maximum representation has been four parliamentarians.

Every five years, the European elections take place. In 2019, the Greens in Schleswig-Holstein topped with 29.1% ahead of the CDU with 26.2%. The SPD secured 17.1%, while the AfD received 7.5%, and the FDP got 5.9%. The Left followed with 3.7%. The polling stations in Schleswig-Holstein will stay open until 6:00 pm on Sunday.
