Election Day - European elections proceed with minimal issues during voting.

The European election voting in Hessen went off without a hitch, reports state election commissioner Wilhelm Kanther from Wiesbaden, minutes after the polling stations closed at 6 pm, according to dpa. The voter turnout at the voting booths had reached 28.3% by 2 pm compared to 34.8% at the matching time of the European elections five years ago. However, Kanther anticipates that the count of postal votes will see a marked rise. Credit the coronavirus pandemic for this uptick. He refused to provide specifics right away. There are about 5000 balloting locations and an additional 1700 places where postal voting is permitted in Hessen.

In all, over 4.85 million eligible voters have the right to cast their ballots in Hessen, which will determine the distribution of European Parliament seats. 100,000 youngsters aged 16 or 17 were permitted to take part in a statewide election for the first time in Hessen. Thirty-four political parties and other associations made their way onto the ballots. Almost 55,000 election workers and assistants were active in Hessen's EU polling.

Germany currently boasts 96 female and male representatives among the nationwide and Hessian polls taking place. The results won't be announced prior to 11 pm as Italian polling sites won't shut down until then. 720 representatives will be chosen in total. The current German delegation consists of 96 members, who convene in Strasbourg and Brussels.

Hessen sent seven individuals to the 2019 European Parliament: two from the CDU, one Green party member, a Social Democrat, an AfD member, a representative from the FDP, and a Free Voter.

In the 2019 Hessian elections, the CDU bagged the finest share with 25.8% of the votes. The Greens trailed closely with 23.4%. SPD secured 18.4% of the votes, AfD, 9.9%, FDP with 6.4%, and the Left with 4.4%. Back in 2014, Hessian voter turnout had struck 58.4% by nightfall.
