Voting Processes - European elections called by Minister: Much to be decided
The European Minister of Brandenburg, Katrin Lange, from the Social Democratic Party (SPD), is urging the approximately 2.1 million eligible voters to cast their votes in the upcoming European election on Sunday. She emphasized the increased significance and responsibilities of the European Parliament over the last two decades and noted that each election becomes more crucial than the previous one. Lange also highlighted that voting opportunities are available for individuals as young as 16 years old. She cautioned that giving up the right to vote could potentially lead to an undesired outcome for an elector.
Brandenburg will be sending 96 representatives to the European Parliament, alongside 720 representatives from the other 27 EU member states. The European ballot paper in Brandenburg will have 34 candidate lists. As per the Brandenburg Center for Political Education, two-thirds of European regulations have a direct influence on regions and local municipalities. Some of these regulations involve data protection and freedom of expression online, climate policies, and migration policies. Simultaneously, local elections will also be taking place in Brandenburg on Sunday.
