European Championship round of 16 in Dortmund: Man on stadium roof triggers police operation

A man was arrested, no information was given about his identity and motivation at first. It was stated that there was no danger to other people at any point.

The game had to be temporarily suspended in Dortmund due to a thunderstorm. The English referee Michael Oliver stopped the match between Germany and Denmark around the 35th minute, as an AFP reporter on site reported on Saturday. The game could be resumed about 25 minutes later.

Several fan zones were closed on Saturday due to the thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail. Central fan zones had already been closed about 1.5 weeks ago due to similar weather conditions in Düsseldorf, Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, and Leipzig.

Germany has been hit by sometimes heavy storms in the past few weeks. A thunderstorm system moved from the southwest over the west and central parts of Germany towards the northeast on the night from Friday to Saturday. Heavy thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes were possible.
