Europe Cup: Seawolves fight for important victory in Finland

With a 98:92 (45:40) victory at bottom-placed Karhu Basket (Finland), the Rostock Seawolves have kept their chance of reaching the second group stage of the Fiba Europe Cup alive. After five games, the German Basketball League team has three wins and awaits Jonava CBet (Lithuania) next Tuesday for the decisive game for the group win. Head coach Christian Held's best scorer on Wednesday was Chevez Goodwin (22 points). Robin Amaize, who recently became a father and did not make the trip, was not part of the squad.

Rostock was the better team to begin with and decided the first quarter 22:19 in its favor. The visitors benefited in particular from Derrick Alston (10 points) and Goodwin (8 points). The visitors pulled away by eleven points at times in the second ten minutes, but lost their clear lead again by the break.

A few minutes after the restart, the lead was also gone. Karhu was now much more effective and was suddenly 60:56 ahead. It remained a duel of equals until Goodwin drained a lay-up off an assist from Alston with 90 seconds remaining to make it 91:87 and so pave the way for the Seawolves' victory. Tyler Nelson then made it all clear shortly before the end.

The Rostock Seawolves' success in Finland brings them closer to the second group stage of the FIBA Europe Cup, as they need to secure a win against Jonava CBet in their upcoming match on Tuesday. In their recent game against Karhu Basket, Chevez Goodwin led the team with 22 points, contributing significantly to the Seawolves' participation in the FIBA Europe Cup's Fiba Europe Cup. The Rostock Seawolves, who participated in the FIBA Europe Cup, showcased their skills in basketball, with Goodwin and Derrick Alston scoring substantial points during the game.
