Eurocup: Hamburg Towers also lose in Venice

Veolia Towers Hamburg failed to improve its record in the Eurocup at the end of the first half of the season. The German basketball club lost 77:94 (37:53) at Umana Reyer in Venice on Tuesday evening, its eighth defeat in its ninth game. As a result, the Hanseatic club also missed out on making up ground on the playoff places. The best scorer in the team of Head Coach Benka Barloschky was Aljami Durham with 17 points.

Hamburg was already 13:8 ahead in the first quarter, but gave up the lead again. The encounter remained virtually evenly poised until midway through the second period, but the Towers ran into problems in defense and offense and trailed by as many as 20 points after the break (33:36 with around five minutes remaining), despite the return of Aleksander Dziewa.

The home side was also the dominant team for large stretches after the break. Hamburg was not able to significantly reduce the gap again and thus pose a threat to Venice.
