- Eurocity collides with downed tree in Bavaria
A Eurocity train in Bavaria collided with a tree that had fallen into the track area and came to a halt. A spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn confirmed this on Tuesday evening. As the EC 117 was operated by Austrian rail company ÖBB, no initial information was available about the passengers.
The section between Bad Endorf and Prien near Lake Chiemsee has been non-operational since the incident, which occurred around 7 pm. Long-distance trains had to turn back or terminate their journeys early, resulting in some cancellations.
Bayerischer Rundfunk reported in the evening that more than 200 people had to be evacuated from the train. It was initially unclear if there were any injuries.
The duration of the closure is uncertain, according to Bahn. The website stated that efforts to resolve the issue were expected to continue into the early morning hours. ÖBB estimated that disruptions would last until 2 am. An ÖBB spokesperson advised passengers to check online for connections or cancellations.
Elsewhere, there were also disruptions in rail traffic due to storms on Tuesday evening, the spokesperson said. In places, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia and Bayern, trees had fallen onto the tracks.
The collision occurred in the region of Bavaria, specifically in Germany. Due to numerous fallen trees in North Rhine-Westphalia and Bayern, there have been additional disruptions in German rail traffic.
