- EUR 200,000 for conversion of the chemical mill in Chemnitz
For the construction of a so-called "life and work hotspot" on the former site of the Saxon Sewing Machine Factory Kappel in Chemnitz, the company "Die Fabrik" is receiving funding from the state amounting to 200,000 euros. State Minister Thomas Schmidt (CDU) presented this decision to the initiators and project leaders, as announced by the Ministry of Regional Development.
According to the plans, the 9,500 square meter area will include coworking spaces and offices, sports and leisure facilities, event spaces, gastronomy, conference rooms, and apartments. The area in Chemnitz, often referred to as the "Tüllfabrik" in local parlance, is actually an industrial building from the 1880s.
"This is where something truly magnificent is being created in the heart of Chemnitz, with great courage, vision, and of course, money," said Schmidt. This old factory area, one of many beautiful industrial wastelands in the state, is now making the leap into the modern era.
The "life and work hotspot" being developed in Chemnitz is expected to feature numerous modern amenities, such as coworking spaces and apartments. With the funding from the state, this historical "Tüllfabrik" hotspot will transform into a bustling hub of work, leisure, and residence.
