- €25 million in funding for Elmhorn Town Hall
Elmshorn can plan the construction of a new town hall with urban development funding from the city, state, and municipalities. Up to 25.2 million euros have been released, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior. In Elmshorn, large unused industrial areas in a central, inner-city location are to be redeveloped, allowing the municipality to expand the city to the south. More than 50 architectural firms participated in an architectural competition, according to the Ministry. The future seat of the city administration will be a building with modern design that also incorporates historical elements from industrial architecture. The town hall is to be the central point of the new quarter at Buttermarkt.
Urban development funding of more than one billion euros has been invested in the north since 1971. However, budget consolidation also means cuts in urban development are being discussed in the state. So far, only a announcement from the Black-Green coalition to close the budget gap through cuts in urban development funding has been made. Until 2027, a further approximately 54 million euros from state funds are to flow into urban development in the north.
The announcement of up to 25.2 million euros in urban development funding for Elmshorn's new town hall came from the Ministry of the Interior. Due to budget consolidation, discussions about cuts in urban development are happening at the state level, which might affect future funding.
