EU to initiate accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on June 25th
During the Brussels summit in December, the EU greenlit discussions for the nation invaded by Russia, alongside Moldova, its neighbor, to join the union. Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, outspoken in his opposition, nevertheless abstained from blocking it. German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz (SPD), had advised Orban to skedaddle with a beet-red visage prior to the vote on membership talks. "Subsequently, we cast the decision, with 26 of us in attendance", Scholz stated back then.
