Manhunt - Escaped prisoner still on the run
The police are still searching for an escaped prisoner in Ludwigshafen. The search for the 25-year-old is under high pressure, said a police spokesman in Mannheim on Friday. The inmate of the Mannheim correctional facility (JVA) had used a doctor's appointment at the clinic in the neighboring city of Ludwigshafen to escape on Thursday.
According to the police, a second, masked man was waiting on a scooter at the appointment. He is said to have threatened the prison officer at Mannheim Prison with a pistol and fired into the air. The handcuffed prisoner from neighboring Baden-Württemberg jumped onto the scooter and the two fled together.
In October 2022, the fugitive was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Mannheim Regional Court for particularly serious robbery and extortion. After his escape, the police searched for him with large forces, including by helicopter. According to the police, there are no indications of any danger to bystanders.
This is the second escape of a prisoner from Baden-Württemberg in Rhineland-Palatinate within a few weeks. A prisoner at Bruchsal Prison had escaped on October 30 during a guarded excursion to a quarry pond in Germersheim, using a tool to break his shackle. In 2012, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Karlsruhe district court for strangling a man. The prisoner is still on the run.
