Schmalkalden-Meiningen - Escape from police ends after freezing cold river crossing
In an attempt to shake off the police, a 25-year-old man fled through an ice-cold river in Meiningen. However, the officers followed him through the tributary of the Werra and were able to catch him, the police announced on Sunday. "Presumably shocked by the cold shower", the man gave up shortly after crossing the river.
The man is suspected of breaking into at least nine parked vehicles in Meiningen on Sunday night and stealing items from them. The police found items from the vehicles in question on his person. The man was provisionally arrested. He now faces several charges of particularly serious theft.
