Energy atlas - Eon: Bavaria ahead in terms of e-car charging points and charging capacity

According to a survey by electricity supplier Eon, Bavaria is the federal state with the most public charging points and the highest charging capacity for electric cars. With more than 20,300 charging points, the offer for electric cars in Bavaria is greater than in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 18,000 and Baden-Württemberg with a good 17,400 charging points, Eon announced on Thursday.

However, there are major differences between the stations. At fast-charging stations with up to 400 kilowatts of charging power, significantly more charging processes are possible every day than at AC charging stations with only 11 or 22 kilowatts of charging power.

According to the new "EON Energy Atlas", there are currently almost 3,200 megawatts of charging capacity available for electric cars in Germany. The top places in the state comparison are occupied by Bavaria with 608 megawatts, North Rhine-Westphalia with 570 megawatts and Baden-Württemberg with 505 megawatts. Twelve Bavarian cities and districts have already installed more than 10 megawatts of charging capacity for electric cars, including Ingolstadt and Regensburg and the districts of Ansbach, Kitzingen and Eichstätt.

In October, a good 248,000 fully electric cars were registered in Bavaria, most of them in the city and district of Munich (46,500) and in Nuremberg (6,800). According to the electricity company, Munich's e-cars would emit 80,000 tons less CO2 per year than combustion engines if they were charged exclusively with green electricity.

There are now more than 1.3 million fully electric cars on the roads across Germany. The charging network consists of more than 100,000 public charging points.
