- environmentalists: strived for a significantly improved outcome
Following their loss in the regional election, the head honchos of the Saxon Greens seemed downcast. "Today, post-election, we're not feeling too peppy, and our results aren't cutting it for us," remarked joint chairperson Marie Müller. "We aimed for a much improved score." "In this broader context, we Greens haven't managed to make a significant breakthrough with our issues, our mission," Müller added. As per the early figures, the Greens are currently at 5.1%.
Fear of the AfD as the most powerful force, according to Müller, was a major driving factor for many voters. Environment and climate protection, however, took a back seat. Nevertheless, the party intends to keep a strong presence in Saxon politics with its principles. "We're the sole party in this state that's fully committed to environmental and climate concerns, even if we're not winning any pot plants with this issue right now," Müller stated.
No personnel repercussions
State chairwoman Christin Furtenbacher deemed the election result as a test for state politics. "The CDU and Michael Kretschmer have played a role in making the formation of the government a complex task," Furtenbacher commented. She accused the CDU of using "scare tactics and polarization," which not only sidetracked potential future government responsibilities but also validated "right-wing extremist and populist narratives." Furtenbacher also criticized the CDU for constantly fault-finding the Greens, creating hostile images, and poisoning the discourse. The onus now falls on the CDU to establish a stable environment in the state.
According to Furtenbacher, post-election defeat, there are no intentions to inflict personnel sanctions. "We've assembled a solid crew for this election campaign and soldiered on consistently, with all our might."
Despite the disappointing Landtag results, the Greens intend to maintain their commitment to environmental and climate concerns in Saxon politics. Furtenbacher, state chairwoman of the Greens, has stated that there will be no personnel repercussions following the post-election defeat.
