Officers Investigate Crime Scene - Environmentalists call for more inquiry on stored ammunition at the LKA facility.

In the weapon repository of the Saxony-Anhalt Criminal Investigation Department, there's a considerable surplus of ammunition compared to other federal organizations. As per a query by the German Press Agency, the variation in the number of weapons and ammunition stored for comparison and training is notable. Based on the Saxony-Anhalt Criminal Investigation Department, they had around 226,000 cartridges in their weapon depot recently. On the other hand, other federal states possess between 700 (in Thuringia) and 4,300 cartridges (in Lower Saxony). The ammunition in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is about 43,000, which is substantially higher than the other federal states.

The ammunition is stored for forensic and ballistic analyses, mentioned the Criminal Investigation Department in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. A spokesperson for the Saxony-Anhalt Criminal Investigation Department shared that the comparison weapons assortment is necessary for technical investigations into criminal activities. The word had spread last month that there have been flaws in the acceptance of items like weapons or ammunition into this collection at the Saxony-Anhalt Criminal Investigation Department since 2019. Consequently, roughly 70,000 cartridges were disposed of. The Interior Minister of CDU, Tamara Zieschang, outlined in a committee gathering that the LKA's approach to this destruction was admirable.

The Green Party's parliamentary spokesperson on internal affairs sought for a thorough investigation. Striegel provided a reaction to a demand, emphasizing that the whereabouts of each cartridge must be ensured. What needs to be cleared up is who ordered such vast quantities of ammunition and the intention behind it. It's not merely an issue of ill-kept records, but also of the unusual congregation of abundant amounts of ammunition.

After the allegations surfaced, an audit of the comparison weapons collection was conducted at the Criminal Investigation Department. This exploration is in progress, disclosed a spokesperson for the establishment.
