- Environmental advocate Al-Wazir aims to contest in the Bundestag.
Previously serving as Hessia's Economics and Transport Minister, as well as Deputy Minister-President, within the former coalition government of black and green, Al-Wazir now intends to seek a seat in the German Bundestag. Confirming his candidacy on Instagram last Saturday, he noted that he will be contesting from the constituency of Offenbach and stands at the fourth position on the Hessian Greens' state list.
Having previously served as the Green Party's parliamentary group leader in Hesse from 2000 to 2014, Al-Wazir stepped down from his ministerial role due to his party's withdrawal from the state government in 2024. He now represents the Hessian Green Party in the Hessian state parliament as a regular member.
Referencing the current challenging political climate and the pressure on democracy, Al-Wazir expressed that "many people have lost faith in politics' problem-solving capabilities". His party, the Greens, finds itself "cornered" and "escaping this predicament is our daunting objective over the next few months".
Expressing gratitude for representing the people of Hesse in the state parliament, Al-Wazir holds the belief that he can effectively utilize his decade-long ministerial experience in Hesse during the upcoming Bundestag election campaign and the succeeding German Bundestag.
Al-Wazir mentioned his intention to seek a seat in the Federal Parliament, specifically in the German Bundestag, indicating his goal to represent his party at The Federal Parliament. After stepping down from his role in the Hessian state government, Al-Wazir continues to serve in politics, holding a position in the Hessian state parliament, which is part of The Federal Parliament.
