Voting Processes - Entrepreneur head of NRW: European polls signal a directional shift.

Arndt G. Kirchhoff, President of North Rhine-Westphalia's Entrepreneurs, called Sunday's European election one of the most significant since the European Union's inception. Speaking at the Entrepreneur Day NRW in Düsseldorf, Kirchhoff asserted that the outcome would decide if Europe would be a place of nationalism, isolation, and exclusion or if its six-decade legacy of peace, freedom, democracy, and the rule of law would persist.

The European economic situation has grown complicated and challenging. Now, it's more crucial than ever to develop a genuine economic policy for Europe, Kirchhoff argued. Brussels shouldn't stand for excessive bureaucracy and regulatory fervor, according to him. He cautioned, "Europe can't afford brakes like these without losing its economic might," which is essential for "defending our values and our freedom."

The Association of Entrepreneurs of North Rhine-Westphalia, comprising 129 associations representing over 80,000 firms and roughly three million workers, claims to be the amalgamation of these associations. The 69-year-old Kirchhoff, elected President in 2016, was recently re-elected for a two-year term. Kirchhoff, an entrepreneur, chairs the Supervisory Board of the Kirchhoff Group, a family-owned business with operations in Iserlohn. The group functions as an automotive supplier and produces garbage trucks. Across the globe, they employ 13,500 individuals. In 2023, their annual turnover was estimated at around three billion euros, as stated on their website.
