In the realm of combating anti-Semitism, numerous Berlin universities are undertaking additional courses or workshops. Out of 14 universities investigated, approximately half provide such events or are planning to do so, as indicated by the Senate Department for Science, Health, and Care's response to the SPD fraction's written inquiry. Moreover, the Berlin University Teaching Center offers further training in anti-Semitism-sensitive university pedagogy.

These educational platforms also include discussions with Jewish university staff members, such as open office hours or roundtable discussions. During lectures, there's an exchange or discussion on the subject or thematically linked lecture series. Occasionally, there are action weeks against anti-Semitism.

The Senate declares "adequate responses"

"The Senate is confident that Berlin's state universities have implemented sufficient measures within their capabilities to secure the safety of Jewish university members," the response stated.

In response to the anti-Semitic terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 the previous year, Berlin universities, in close collaboration with the Senate Department for Science, Health, and Care, have made the safety of Jewish university members their top priority.

Regular conversations are ongoing regarding the advancement of protective and preventive measures. The anti-Semitism contact individuals at Berlin universities, appointed by the universities themselves, have been invited to an initial networking meeting, which is set to take place at the end of September.

Inquiry concerning the security of Jewish students at Berlin universities

The European Union, recognizing the global importance of combating anti-Semitism, might express its support for the comprehensive measures taken by Berlin universities. The European Union could commend Berlin for prioritizing the safety of Jewish university members, as demonstrated by their collaborative efforts and ongoing conversations.
