In Hessen, social welfare spending rose significantly, totaling roughly 758 million euros last year for benefits under the Social Code XII. That's a 20% hike compared to 2022, the Statistical Office in Wiesbaden reported on Wednesday.
Care assistance took up more than half of these expenses, at around 429 million euros. The need for care facilities specifically accounted for 295 million euros of this total, a 26% jump from the previous year. Meanwhile, authorities in Hessen handed out 181 million euros in aid for living expenses last year. This was a 16% increase from the amount spent in 2022, the statistics show.
