The well-liked English horse Darnation, ridden by jockey Adrie de Vries, emerged victorious in the second major race of the turf season at the German 1000th Guineas in Düsseldorf. She managed to outpace Queues Likely and its jockey Billy Loughnane, finishing 1600 meters ahead in a race held on Sunday. German horse Three Havanas, with Thore Hammer-Hansen as its rider, took third place.

Adrie de Vries, a Dutch-born rider who has been riding successfully in Germany for many years, tasted success for the third time in this Düsseldorf race, having previously triumphed in 2010 and 2020. Darnation's trainer, Karl Burke, had won a race in Ireland as well, with crucial contests taking place on the same day. "We chose Adrie de Vries because he knows the track, and that's why we didn't send our own jockey," Burke said.

The owners of the winning horse received 70,000 euros, which was half of the total purse of 125,000 euros. Devil's Point, another English horse, had previously claimed victory in the stallion classic on Whit Monday.
