Gallop race - Engels and Atoso win the Lotto Hamburg Grand Prix
In the saddle of the five-year-old Wallach Atoso, jockey Lilli-Marie Engels celebrated her first win in a Europa-Group Race at Hamburg-Horn's gallop racing track.
The 24-year-old Engels put on a brilliant show in the 55,000 Euro-prized Großen Preis von Lotto Hamburg, edging out Bauyrzhan Murzabayev's ridden Dolomit by a narrow margin after 2,000 meters. Westminster Moon, ridden by Eduardo Pedroza, finished third.
"This horse is something truly special. I'm just happy," said Lilli-Marie Engels after her biggest career win. The races continue on Saturday (10.40 am). The highlight is then the 155th German Derby on Sunday, which is scheduled to start at 3:45 pm. The competition for the coveted Blue Ribbon is worth 650,000 Euros.
