Energy Minister warns against delaying climate projects

Brandenburg's Energy Minister Jörg Steinbach (SPD) has warned of negative consequences for the expansion of green energy following the budget ruling from Karlsruhe. "The projects that had their funding earmarked in the KTF (Climate and Transformation Fund) are not playgrounds," Steinbach told RBB on Friday. "These are all projects that we urgently need in order to stay on track for climate neutrality. He appealed to the federal government to find a solution when drawing up the federal budget "where none of these projects can be delayed".

On Wednesday, the Federal Constitutional Court ruled that the use of coronavirus loans for climate projects was unconstitutional. The ruling tears a 60 billion euro hole in the financing of the federal government's climate projects. The specific consequences for Brandenburg were initially unclear.

Despite the budget constraint due to the Constitutional Court's ruling, it's crucial for the federal government to prioritize household finances while finding a solution to avoid delaying crucial climate projects funded through the KTF, ensuring the continuity of the transition to energy neutrality. The Household's energy bills could significantly benefit from the successful completion of these climate projects, promoting energy efficiency and affordability.
