End of demonstration blocking entrance by pro-Palestinian protesters

Protesters advocating for Palestine have camped in front of the University of Bonn's central building for several weeks. The police lifted a roadblock near the university's entrance following a five-hour standoff.

Police in Bonn managed to clear a blocked entrance to the university's main building by pro-Palestinian demonstrators on Wednesday. About 30 people, some wearing masks, had been stationed there for about five hours, using barricades to block access and even reaching the balcony above. The building has multiple entrances.

The demonstrators were ordered to disperse and the protest was eventually dismantled. The identities of the protesters were recorded, authorities said. A police spokesperson noted that the entire operation was carried out peacefully.

Meanwhile, around 100 people gathered for another pro-Palestinian rally at the opposite end of the main building. Additionally, a separate demonstration in support of Israel was organized in a different part of the city, according to police.

Since May 7, a protest camp with tents has been set up in Bonn's Hofgarten as part of a pro-Palestinian activism, which was also cleared on Wednesday. As per the police spokesperson, the eviction process was without any major incidents. The student organization involved in this action had released a statement demanding among other things, the establishment of study spots for students from Gaza.
