On Wednesday, the company shared its plan to reduce its workforce by approximately 440 employees. The shipyard is struggling financially and needs to reduce expenses urgently.
Thomas Gelder, the IG Metall representative for Leer-Papenburg, expects around 2000 to 3000 protesters at the event. The Lower Saxony Economic Minister, Olaf Lies (SPD), has confirmed he'll be attending, along with other regional politicians.
A representative for Lies stated that there's regular communication with the management and employee representatives. Lies is deeply concerned about the shipyard's future and the preservation of all jobs, he said.
