Bundesliga 2 - Elversberg unluckily defeated in Karlsruhe

Second-division soccer team SV Elversberg was unable to halt its negative trend in the last game of the year. The Saarland side lost 2:3 (1:2) at Karlsruher SC on Sunday and go into the winter break in ninth place in the table with 24 points after their third defeat in a row.

Paul Wanner (29th minute) and Luca Schnellbacher (63rd) scored for the promoted side in front of 23,654 spectators at Wildpark. Dzenis Burnic (6th), Budu Siwsiwadse (16th) and Igor Matanovic (53rd) scored for the hosts.

Elversberg had problems at the start against a motivated and compact Karlsruhe side and were 2-0 down early on. Bayern loanee Wanner's follow-up provided the visitors with additional motivation. Even after falling two goals behind again, Elversberg never gave up. However, KSC repeatedly opened up opportunities for coach Horst Steffen's team through numerous serious defensive errors.

Schnellbacher's goal gave the Saarland side renewed hope of a good end to the season. In the second half, which was turbulent at times, both teams only hit the aluminum once. The best chance for the visitors came from Wanner, whose 66th-minute lob hit the post.
