Based on the statement from Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, a blaze recently ignited on a wheat field during the late hours of Thursday, fueled by powerful winds. The incident apparently affected five neighboring settlements. By Friday morning, the flames were extinguished. The Justice Ministry has launched an investigation to determine the blaze's origin.

Locals in the heavily impacted village of Koksaran recounted to AFP that numerous goats and sheep vanished in the inferno. Charred remains were discovered on the fields.

As per information from the European Forest Fire Information Service Effis, Turkey has witnessed more than 70 forest and bush fires so far this year. The nation's deadliest forest fires ever occurred in 2021, claiming the lives of nine individuals and leaving extensive damage along the Mediterranean and Aegean coastlines. This environmental disaster triggered a political crisis, forcing Ankara to become the final G20 member to ratify the Paris Climate Agreement.
