- Eleven charges after riots in Biberach
Following violent clashes on Ash Wednesday in Biberach, the public prosecutor's office has filed 11 indictments. 37 summons for a penal order have been issued, the prosecution announced in Ravensburg. In total, investigations are ongoing against 65 known suspects, a spokesperson stated. The "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" had previously reported on this.
On Ash Wednesday, a protest action in Biberach an der Riß escalated to the point where the Greens had to cancel a planned event, including with Minister President Winfried Kretschmann and Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir, due to security concerns. Several police officers were injured during the protests on February 14, and pepper spray was used.
The charges range from resisting law enforcement, rioting, and coercion. The use of a unconstitutional symbol, the so-called Hitler salute with a raised right arm, was also involved.
No trial dates have been set yet, a spokesperson at Biberach District Court stated. Further indictments or summons for a penal order are to be expected. "The penal orders have largely already been issued; some are already legally binding, some have had an appeal lodged, and some are currently within the appeal period."
