In Bavaria, around 10.4 million people are eligible to vote during the European elections. Among them are 220,000 16- and 17-year-olds who can cast their votes for the first time because of the lowering of the voting age. Polling stations will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Over 34 election proposals from various parties and political groups see 1,413 male and female candidates across the country.
This election has a unique aspect - over 822,000 people with EU citizenship other than German can also cast their votes in Bavaria if they wish to. They have the liberty to either choose their homeland or Bavaria for casting their votes.
Furthermore, inclement weather over the past few days has caused several issues concerning the voting process. In certain areas, polling stations had to be shifted.
