Large numbers of residents in Waiblingen, Rems-Murr-District encountered issues with their ballot papers for the local elections. Many did not get their ballots as usual in the mail beforehand. Some did not receive any at all, while others only got them shortly before the voting day. The city made this announcement on a Sunday. Despite this glitch, there were no issues with voting. Over 30,000 out of the over 41,000 eligible voters were impacted by this error. The rest of these individuals availed of the postal voting option.

On Saturday afternoon, the city officials discovered the error. They had about 150 staff members from the administration and volunteers distribute as many ballots as possible. Consequently, queues formed at some polling stations due to the lack of ballots. The mayor of the city, Sebastian Wolf (CDU), expressed his deep regrets about the mistake.

Across Germany, over 8.6 million eligible voters participated in the elections for municipal councils, district councils, and local councils. Voters in the Stuttgart region could have an impact on the composition of the regional assembly. Women and men had the opportunity to vote for several candidates as well as multiple lists.
