- Elected Official Receives Police Escort Following Racist Assault
CDU party contender Adeline Abimnwi Awemo, hailing from Cameroon and residing in Cottbus for over two decades, has received police escorts due to a discriminatory incident that transpired at the end of July. She'll have law enforcement officers by her side during public appearances or gatherings she deems risky, Awemo disclosed at a campaign event in Cottbus. "Things remain unaltered for me, I've carried on with my campaigning," she asserted, with no deviations from her initial plans.
A 29-year-old woman is under scrutiny by the police for allegations of hate speech and assault, stemming from an incident in which Awemo was racially disparaged and assaulted while posting her campaign posters in Cottbus.
Saturday's campaign event was attended by CDU member of parliament Michael Schierack and Brandenburg's CDU chair Jan Redmann. The citizens of Brandenburg will cast their votes for a new state parliament on September 22.
Given the current situation, Adeline Abimnwi Awemo will rely on police protection during her public appearances due to the hate speech and assault incident. The police are investigating the case seriously to ensure her safety during the political campaign period in Cottbus.
